TRACING PAPER
Tracing paper is a specialized paper having very low opacity, which allows light to pass though to make it a translucent medium. Since it enabled Architects and design engineers to trace an image onto it the paper was named as “ tracing paper”. It also helped design engineers (long before photocopier) to create drawings, which could be copied using “diazo copy process”.
Pure cellulose fibers are always translucent but air trapped in between gives a paper opaque look and white shade. In tracing paper fibers are refined through first sulfite process (Acidic process) and then through hydrolysis to take most of trapped air out to give it a translucent property. it may contain max. 10% moisture at 50% humidity.
